Roughly translated, Adyar means 'peace'. It is the name of a river in Chennai, India, and the international headquarters of The Theosophical Society is situated on its banks.
Who Owns the Adyar Bookshop?
The Adyar Bookshop is owned by The Blavatsky Lodge of The Theosophical Society in Sydney, a non-profit organisation. Proceeds from the bookshop are used by the Lodge to support the Objects of The Theosophical Society through the Lodge's lecture and study programs, and The Adyar Lending Library. The Blavatsky Lodge and the Adyar Library are located on the 3rd floor, 484 Kent St, Sydney NSW 2000 Australia.
